Bengaluru, Sept. 10 -- Defending champions Alpine APL Pipers bounced back from an opening-day defeat to register an 11-6 victory over PBG Alaskan Knights and move to the top of the Global Chess League (GCL) standings here on Thursday.
The Pipers, however, had earlier suffered a heavy 4-12 defeat against Ganges Grandmasters, who strengthened their title credentials with a dominant performance.
Ganges Grandmasters or FYERS American Gambits can dislodge the Pipers from the top spot when they clash in the final match of Thursday.
