Bagalkot, July 26 -- Heavy monsoon rains in Maharashtra's Western Ghats have sharply increased inflows into the Krishna River, forcing authorities to open 14 gates of the Almatti Reservoir for the first time this monsoon and release 67,500 cusecs of water, even as officials sounded an alert for downstream villages.
The discharge was increased from 42,500 cusecs to 67,500 cusecs on Saturday morning after inflows climbed to 73,162 cusecs. Of the total release, 42,500 cusecs is being discharged through the right-bank hydel power station and 25,000 cusecs through the spillway gates.
The reservoir is rapidly inching towards its full capacity, with the water level reaching 518.60 metres against the Full Reservoir Level (FRL) of 519.60 metres. S...
