New Delhi, Feb. 23 -- Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Monday launched a sharp attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing it of systematically weakening public education and shutting down thousands of government schools across the country.

In a strongly worded message posted on his WhatsApp channel, Yadav claimed that the BJP government has "reduced education to scrap" and described the reported closure of government schools as "a huge conspiracy against the future of our country."Referring to developments in Parliament, Yadav said the BJP had admitted in the Rajya Sabha that 18,727 government schools were closed over the past five years of its rule.
