New Delhi, Jan. 7 -- Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday launched a sharp attack on the BJP-led central government, alleging that attempts to rename the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) are part of a "covert conspiracy" to gradually dismantle the flagship rural employment scheme.

The Viksit Bharat-Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin), a new legislation (VB-G RAM G Act, 2025), passed in the Parliament in the previous session, replaces the MGNREGA.
