Lucknow, Sept. 15 -- Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday took a swipe at the BJP over the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), saying the government should first fulfil its earlier election promises before raising new issues.

In a statement posted on social media, Yadav said people were beginning to view the BJP's push for the UCC as an "underground communal conspiracy" aimed at diverting attention from issues affecting their daily lives.

Referring to the BJP's past promises, he said the government should first deliver on commitments such as transferring Rs 15 lakh into people's bank accounts and creating two crore jobs.
