New Delhi, Aug. 6 -- Air India today appointed former Ethiopian Airlines Chief Tewolde Gebremariam as its CEO and Managing Director, succeeding Campbell Wilson.
The Tata-owned carrier said the board chose Gebremariam for his experience in airline turnarounds, operational excellence, and profitable expansion. His joining date will be announced later.
Earlier, there had been speculation that Gebremariam had been selected by Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) to lead its post-privatization turnaround.
According to reports, Gebremariam's track record is striking. In over a decade at Ethiopian, he grew revenues more than fourfold, nearly tripled the fleet, and turned Addis Ababa into a major long-haul hub.
