Srinagar, Aug. 8 -- Awami Itihaad Party (AIP) on Saturday appealed to Chief Justice of India Justice Surya Kant to consider the bail plea of its president and Baramulla Member Parliament Engineer Rashid with "compassion, urgency and constitutional fairness" as he completed seven years in incarceration.
The appeal was made at a press conference addressed by AIP Chief Spokesperson Inam un Nabi, State Secretary Sheikh Ashiq and General Secretary Nazir Ahmad Khan here.
Inam said the seven-year incarceration of an elected Member of Parliament without the trial reaching its logical conclusion was not merely a legal matter but a serious test of justice, constitutional values and human conscience.
