Shillong, Sept. 10 -- Piggery farmers marched alongside their pigs in Meghalaya's capital Shillong on Thursday to highlight their plight following the African Swine Fever (ASF) outbreak in the state.

Hill Farmers union (HFU) General Secretary Alfonbirth Kharsyntiew said that piggery farmers were forced to take to the streets after Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Minister refused to meet with them to address their grievances regarding the piggery sector.

The farmers marched with placards, shouted slogans, and even carried piglets to condemn the government's failure to address their grievances despite multiple representations.
