Chennai, Aug. 14 -- The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC), facing severe fund crunch, has put on hold the reassessment of property tax after receiving brickbats from the tax payers.
In the wake of widespread opposition over the unannounced assessment of property tax rates, the civic body after holding discussions with the government headed by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay, decided to put the exercise on hold with immediate effect.
In a post on X, the GCC said it had revised property tax assessments identified as under-assessed and had received several grievance petitions from the public seeking reconsideration of the revisions.
