Gadchiroli, April 29 -- In a significant development, Tumarkothi, a remote hamlet in Maharashtra's Gadchiroli district once known as a Maoist hub, has received electricity for the first time, decades after Independence, bringing relief and hope to its residents, sources said on Wednesday.
The village, once known as a base camp of the People's Liberation Guerrilla Army and riddled with booby traps, had remained in darkness for years.
The electrification marks a crucial step toward improving access to basic infrastructure in one of the region's most underdeveloped and inaccessible areas.
The development comes weeks after union Home Minister Amit Shah set a March 31 deadline to eliminate Maoist insurgency.
