New Delhi, Sept. 1 -- The Delhi government today ordered all buses operating in the national capital to keep Vehicle Location Tracking Devices (VLTDs) and panic buttons functional at all times and reiterated a ban on curtains and unauthorised window films, a day after the reports of alleged rape of a 17-year-old girl from Uttar Pradesh inside a private bus in Delhi-NCR came public.

In a fresh set of directions issued by the Transport Department, the government made it mandatory for all bus operators, including those from other states plying in Delhi, to comply with safety and operational norms, warning that violations could attract penalties, vehicle impounding and suspension or cancellation of permits.
