Parwinder SandhuNew Delhi, May 23 -- The national capital is likely to witness a prolonged spell of intense heat over the coming week, with maximum temperatures expected to rise to as high as 45 degrees Celsius, and heatwave conditions forecast across several parts of the city, according to the latest weather outlook.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 41.1degC on Saturday, close to normal levels, while the minimum temperature settled at 28.4degC, remaining above normal.

Amid the scorching heat, very light to light rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and dust storms were witnessed in parts of Delhi today, providing temporary relief before temperatures climbed again.
