Siliguri, April 3 -- Within hours of the arrest of the alleged mastermind behind the Kaliachowk violence, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday launched a blistering political offensive, alleging a "deep-rooted and pre-planned conspiracy" to engineer unrest, target minorities and malign the state ahead of the Assembly elections.

Addressing back-to-back rallies at Harirampur and Raiganj in South Diajpur and North Dinajpur districts repectively, Banerjee claimed that the incident - where judges were confined and later attacked during the SIR exercise -was orchestrated by "outsiders" brought in with political backing.
