Madrid/Kabul, Oct. 11 -- Afghan prosecutors, addressing the People's Tribunal for Afghan Women in Madrid, drew attention to the systematic repression of women in the country by the Islamic Emirate.
They further accused the Afghan Taliban of committing crimes against humanity, citing the complete dismantling of rights and support systems for women and persons with disabilities since the group's return to power in 2021.
The Madrid tribunal - composed of international legal experts, human rights advocates and former Afghan officials - is not a formal court, but it aims to document evidence of systemic abuses against Afghan women and girls for submission to UN mechanisms and international legal bodies.
