Adhir Chowdhury's security downgraded from Y-plus to X category

Baharampur, July 11 -- The Centre has downgraded the security cover of Congress veteran and former Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, from Y-Plus category to X category.

The decision comes barely two months after the BJP assumed office in the state following the recently concluded Assembly elections.

According to sources, Chowdhury is no longer a Member of Parliament or the president of the state Congress unit. At present, he serves only as a member of the All India Congress Committee's (AICC) Working Committee and does not hold any constitutional office or major organisational post, warranting the earlier level of security.
