Yavatmal, Nov. 4 -- Social organisations and farmer activists in Yavatmal today protested against the suspension of advocate Asim Sarode's licence to practise law, calling the action as biased and an assault on the freedom of expression.

Adv. Sarode, a prominent Pune-based human rights lawyer originally from Yavatmal, recently had his licence suspended for three months by the Maharashtra Bar Council.

The council's decision followed remarks Sarode allegedly made at a public event concerning the judiciary, the Governor, and the Speaker of the Assembly statements deemed objectionable by the disciplinary body.
