Kolkata, June 1 -- Long queues formed outside bank branches across West Bengal on Monday as the state government rolled out the Annapurna Yojana, with women rushing to update their account details ahead of the first round of payments on June 3 - when eligible beneficiaries would receive Rs 3,000 directly in their bank accounts.
The Annapurna Yojana, a financial assistance scheme targeted at women, is expected to benefit around two crore femalesChief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, speaking at the state secretariat Nabanna, said government representatives would conduct door-to-door visits to assist women in completing application formalities and urged residents not to be misled by rumours surrounding the scheme.
