Kolkata, June 11 -- Trinamool Congress National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee returned to Kolkata from New Delhi on Thursday afternoon amid heightened political tension and a pending appearance before the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in connection with the alleged forged-signature controversy involving TMC legislators.
Banerjee landed at Kolkata airport at around 4:20 pm and left the terminal without making any statement to the media.
He is required to appear before the CID headquarters at Bhawani Bhavan by 6 pm in compliance with an order issued by the Calcutta High Court earlier in the day.
Following the court's directive, security arrangements at Bhawani Bhavan were significantly strengthened.
