Kolkata, Aug. 17 -- Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee has moved the Calcutta High Court challenging the decision to freeze his personal bank account, days before he is scheduled to travel abroad for medical treatment.

Banerjee's lawyer, Ayan Bhattacharya, on Monday drew the attention of Justice Krishna Rao and sought urgent permission to file the petition.

He told the court that Banerjee's personal bank account had been frozen ahead of his proposed foreign trip for medical treatment, but the bank had not provided any clear reason for the action.

Bhattacharya also questioned the legal basis for freezing the account, particularly the application of Section 107 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
