Guwahati, Aug. 28 -- The All Assam Students' union (AASU) has announced a series ofprotest programmes across the state from September 4, intensifying its long-standing demandfor the detection and expulsion of illegal migrants from Bangladesh.
The agitation will begin with an 11-hour hunger strike on September 4, followed by protest demonstrations on September 16, human chains on September 20, and mass rallies onSeptember 23.
AASU leaders said the unchecked influx has led to large-scale encroachment on tribal belts, farmlands, satra lands, and forest reserves, posing a direct threat to the political rights, culture, economy, and demographic balance of indigenous communities.
