Chennai, Aug. 3 -- The popular Tamil festival, Aadi Perukku on Monday has lost its sheen and remained a mere ritual this year as the Cauvery river remained dry and dessertified preventing a large number of devotees, especially women, who throng the river-bed for a holy bath in the river on this auspicious occasion.
Aadi Perukku, celebrated on the 18th day of the Tamil month of Aadi (July-August), is a traditional festival dedicated to water, prosperity and nature. Observed across Tamil Nadu, it holds special significance along the banks of the Cauvery River, particularly in the agriculturally rich delta districts.
