Chennai, April 14 -- The Southern Railway, one of the earliest zones of Indian Railways, celebrated its 75th Formation Day on Tuesday, celebrating a remarkable journey of growth, innovation and public service.
The Southern Railway celebrated with the time "A Legacy on Track, 75 Years of Service and Progress of the lifeline of the South".
Formed on April 14, 1951, Southern Railway emerged through the amalgamation of three erstwhile railway systems, the Madras and Southern Mahratta Railway, the South Indian Railway and the Mysore State Railway. This consolidation was part of the post-Independence effort to create administratively efficient and unified railway zones across the country.
