Peshawar, Nov. 4 -- Girls in Upper Kohistan, a remote district of Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, continue to face a worsening education crisis, with officials reporting that nearly 60% of government primary and middle schools remain closed for girls due to a severe shortage of teachers, absenteeism, and administrative neglect, rising Islamic radicalism, and ethnic tensions.
"I paid a surprise visit to the office of the District Education Officer (women) and found her and most of the staff absent from duty," Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Khurram Khan Jadoon told reporters, reports Geo News.
