Nagpur, Aug. 24 -- : A major chlorine gas leak at a water treatment facility in Nagpur district led to the hospitalisation of 56 people in the early hours of Monday, prompting a large-scale emergency response by district authorities, health officials and disaster management teams.
Officials said the incident occurred around 1 a.m. at the Godhani water purification plant when chlorine began leaking from one of the two gas cylinders installed at the facility. The affected cylinder had a capacity of 900 kg.
The leak quickly spread to nearby residential areas, triggering panic among residents. Several people complained of breathing difficulties, coughing and irritation, while many rushed out of their homes seeking safety.
