Thiruvananthapuram, June 9 -- The annual 52-day trawling ban aimed at protecting marine resources and ensuring the breeding and regeneration of fish stocks during the monsoon season will come into force from midnight on June 9 and remain in effect until July 31.
The state government has put in place extensive measures to ensure strict implementation of the ban and maintain law and order in coastal areas.
As part of the restrictions, the movement and anchoring of mechanised fishing boats have been completely prohibited in areas west of Neendakara Bridge, including the Thangassery and Azhikkal fishing harbours.
All traditional fishing vessels, except inboard engine boats, will be allowed to operate through the Neendakara Fishing Harbour.
