Chandrapur, May 3 -- A total of 5,765 wildlife sightings, including 42 tigers, were documented during the annual 'Machan Census on Waterholes' conducted at the Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve in Maharashtra's Chandrapur district on the occasion of Buddha Purnima, according to an official release.
The findings point to a well-balanced and flourishing ecosystem, with a strong prey-predator ratio observed across both core and buffer areas, said Field Director Prabhu Nath Shukla.
The census, carried out on Friday, is designed to monitor wildlife activity during the peak summer season, when animals congregate around limited water sources. It is traditionally held on 'Buddha Purnima' each year, as the full moon enhances visibility for observers.
