Bhubaneswar, March 9 -- In a startling revelation, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi informed the state Assembly on Monday that 44 prisoners have managed to escape from various jails across the state over the past five years.
In response to a written question by Sofia Firdous (Congress), the Chief Minister disclosed that the 44 escapees included 33 undertrials and 11 convicts. Out of these, 27 prisoners have been recaptured, while 17 remain unaccounted for.
