Lucknow, Jan. 10 -- A tragic fire accident claimed the life of a four-year-old girl in Lucknow. The incident occurred in the Indiranagar police station area at Duda Colony in Sugamau Hanumantpuram, police said on Saturday.
According to the family, the fire broke out in a room where two sisters --Pankhudi (6) and Avika (4) -- were sleeping Friday night. A small temple was set up inside the room, and a lit oil lamp (diya) placed there reportedly caught the curtain on fire. The flames quickly spread throughout the room.
Seeing the fire, Pankhudi woke up and managed to run outside to safety. However, Avika got trapped in the flames and suffered severe burns.
