Thiruvananthapuram, Aug. 27 -- The Kerala Food Safety Department has seized 4,513 litres of adulterated coconut oil during statewide surprise inspections carried out as part of Operation Life ahead of Onam festival.
The raids, conducted across seven districts, come close on the heels of inspections held less than two weeks ago in which 16,565 litres of spurious coconut oil had been confiscated. Earlier this month, ahead of the Onam festival, another 17,000 litres of adulterated coconut oil was seized in a separate crackdown.
The intensified drive follows complaints of the quality of coconut oil in the market, particularly during the festive season when demand peaks. Legal proceedings have been initiated against manufacturers selling spuri...
