Mumbai, Aug. 17 -- Twenty-eight people were rescued after a fire broke out in the basement of the Income Tax Office in Mumbai on Monday, fire officials said.
According to the fire department, the blaze was confined to electrical wiring and installations, record-storage cabins, scrap material, old records, paper stock and wooden partitions spread over an area of around 7,000 to 8,000 square feet.
The fire broke out in the basement of a building comprising a single basement, ground floor and six upper floors.
Firefighting operations are underway using two high-pressure lines, three big hose lines and four small hose lines deployed from eight fire engines. Twenty firefighters equipped with breathing apparatus sets have also been deployed.
