New Delhi, March 12 -- The government on Thursday said the number of Indian-flagged vessels operating in the Persian Gulf region remains unchanged at 28, while authorities continue to closely monitor the safety of ships and Indian seafarers amid the ongoing security situation near the Strait of Hormuz.

Addressing a media briefing here, officials said that 24 of the vessels are currently located west of the Strait of Hormuz with 677 Indian seafarers on board, while four vessels are positioned east of the strait carrying 101 Indian crew members.

"The number of Indian flag vessels operating in the Persian Gulf region remains unchanged. The number was 28 yesterday and it remains 28 today," an official said.
