Shimla, Aug. 29 -- The Kinnaur Indo-China Trade Association via Shipki-La has welcomed the outcome of the 25th Meeting of the Special Representatives (SR) of India and China, saying the renewed emphasis on strengthening cooperation and exchanges in border trade has created a fresh opportunity to address long-pending issues affecting traders and border communities in Kinnaur.
Association president Hishey Negi said on Saturday that the reopening of Shipki-La border trade after a gap of nearly six years was a welcome development, but reopening the route alone would not be sufficient unless the existing trade mechanism was made economically viable, modern, practical and responsive to the needs of border communities.
