Chennai, May 15 -- In a shocking incident, about 25 foreign citizens have been arrested or detained so far for allegedly casting votes illegally in the April 23 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
The foreign nationals are from Sri Lanka, Britian, Indonesia, and Canadia citizens having their country's passport. They were arrested or detained at Chennai and Madurai airports after immigration authorites found their indelible ink affixed on their left index finger and a perusal of documents showed they were not holding any Indian passports to provde their Indian identity.
They were charged with illegally voting by fraudulently obtaining identity documents in the elections.
