Islamabad, May 24 -- A bomb explosion struck a shuttle train carrying Pakistani security personnel and their families in the southwestern province of Balochistan on Sunday, killing at least 24 people and injuring more than 70, officials said.
The Balochistan Liberation Army, a separatist group, has claimed responsibility for Sunday's attack.
The blast hit near a railway track in the provincial capital Quetta as the train was running from the cantonment area to connect with the long-distance Jaffar Express, Pakistan's railways ministry said.
The explosion derailed the engine and three coaches, while two coaches overturned, causing widespread damage in the surrounding area.
