Ratnagiri, April 26 -- In the wake of heavy crop losses caused by adverse weather conditions, the Maharashtra government has announced a compensation of rupees 22,000 per hectare for mango and cashew orchard owners in Ratnagiri district.

The decision comes after significant damage to crops during the current season due to climate fluctuations. Authorities have directed the district agriculture department to carry out a comprehensive survey of affected farmers, with strict instructions to complete the process by May 15.

Unseasonal weather patterns-including a prolonged monsoon last year, followed by intense cold, rising temperatures, and cloudy conditions-have severely impacted orchard productivity.
