Bengaluru, Nov. 15 -- The Forest Department on Saturday sounded an alert across the forest-fringe villages of Mysuru district after confirming that 21 tigers are currently moving through human-dominated landscapes, heightening fear among residents already shaken by the recent deaths of three farmers in tiger attacks within a month.

Deputy Conservator of Forests Paramesh said that a total of 26 tigers had strayed out of the forest, of which five have been captured so far.

The remaining big cats continue to roam across HD Kote, Saragur and Mysuru taluks. Eight tigers have been traced to villages bordering the HD Kote forests, three to forest-fringe settlements in Saragur taluk, and ten in Mysuru's peripheral villages.
