Panchkula, July 1 -- A massive 21-hour rescue operation to save a four-year-old boy who fell into a 220-foot-deep borewell in Dhanaura village of Haryana's Ambala district ended in tragedy early Wednesday, as doctors declared the child dead after he was pulled out.

The victim, identified as Nirvair, accidentally fell into the open borewell while playing around 6 a.m. on Tuesday. Soon after the incident, the district administration, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the Army, and other emergency teams launched an intensive rescue operation.
