Kolkata/Chennai, April 23 -- The 2026 Assembly elections in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu witnessed exceptionally high voter turnout and strong public participation, with West Bengal's turnout figures approaching nearly 92 per cent of its over 3.60 crore electorate, while Tamil Nadu recorded over 82 per cent of its 5.73 crore voters exercising their franchise on Thursday.

Voter turnout remained robust as polling progressed into the final hour, with West Bengal's Phase-1 constituencies recording 91.69 pc participation till 6 pm. Tamil Nadu reached 82.24pc as of 5 pm, according to the Election Commission of India.
