Kottayam, Aug. 28 -- A group of tourists from Kerala had a narrow escape from a devastating flash flood in Nepal after a 20-minute delay caused by their visit to the Swayambhunath Temple reportedly saved them from being caught in the worst of the disaster.
K.M. Satheesh Kumar of Thiruvanchur Kalathil House in Kottayam, who was part of the group, said the unexpected delay at the temple proved crucial as the group later found itself stranded amid the massive flooding and landslides.
The group left Kochi at 10.45 am on August 23 and travelled to Mumbai before proceeding to Gorakhpur. From Gorakhpur, they continued their journey by road and reached Kathmandu on August 24.
