Mumbai, May 21 -- A major fire broke out at the Gaondevi Vegetable Market building on Gokhale Road in neighbouring Thane city in the early hours of Thursday. Two people were dead, while two firefighters were injured.

The dead persons are identified as Kalu Shankar Gadekar (53) and Sagar Shinde (43), and two firemen who were injured are identified as Sujit Pashte (45) and Samir Jadhav (40).

According to officials, the blaze erupted around 4 am in the busy market area, which houses several vegetable stalls, clothing shops and storage godowns.

The injured have been admitted to a nearby hospital. Upon receiving information about the incident, disaster management personnel and firefighters arrived at the scene.
