Shimla, May 15 -- In a significant display of consensus-driven democracy in the tribal district of Lahaul and Spiti district, as many as 17 Gram Panchayats have been elected unopposed in the Panchayati Raj General Elections-2026, reflecting strong community coordination and local-level agreement in several villages.
District Election Officer and Deputy Commissioner Kiran Bhadana on Friday said eight Gram Panchayats in Lahaul and nine in Spiti were elected unanimously after the completion of the nomination withdrawal process.
Apart from the Panchayats, 148 out of 170 ward member seats were also filled uncontested, while one Panchayat Samiti (BDC) member from Sissu secured election unopposed.
