Bengaluru, July 22 -- In a shocking case of alleged modern-day slavery, 12 bonded labourers, including women and two children, were rescued from an illegal stone quarry in Karnataka's Tumakuru district, where they had allegedly been held in bondage and forced to work for nearly two decades, officials said on Wednesday.
The dramatic rescue operation was carried out at an illegal quarry on government land in Pavasandra village near Huliyurdurga in Kunigal taluk after the NGO MUKTI alerted the authorities about the alleged exploitation.
