Pune, Feb. 18 -- Police conducted a major crackdown in the Budhwar Peth area of Pune on Wednesday and detained 22 persons, including 11 Bangladeshi women allegedly operating as sex workers.
Legal proceedings have been initiated to deport the women, officials said.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the women were brought to India from Bangladesh using fake Aadhaar cards and forged documents. Police stated that strict legal action would also be taken against agents and brothel operators who facilitated their entry and forced them into prostitution. The action was carried out based on specific intelligence inputs received by the police.
