Ballari, July 22 -- A landmark archaeological discovery in Karnataka has pushed back the history of human habitation in the region by more than 10,000 years, with scientific tests confirming that the Devdari Cave in Ballari district was inhabited by prehistoric humans during the Mesolithic period, significantly reshaping the understanding of South India's earliest settlements.

Carbon dating carried out by the Physical Research Laboratory (PRL), Ahmedabad, has established that artefacts and fossil remains recovered from the cave near Navloti village in Sandur taluk are over 10,000 years old, making it one of the most significant prehistoric finds in the state in recent years.
