Bhubaneswar, July 23 -- A whopping 38,000 cases have been pending for over a decade in the Orissa High Court, union Minister of State for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal informed the Rajya Sabha on Thursday.

In a written reply to Dilip Kumar Ray, MP, the minister said while 7,035 cases were pending for over 20 years ago, the High Court is currently burdened with 1,69,320 pending cases, of which 1,31,359 have been pending for more than one year.The data highlights the mounting backlog before the High Court even as the judiciary continues efforts to improve case management and digitise court functioning.
