Sydney, Sept. 7 -- A teenager has died and four more people have been hospitalized after a car that was being chased by police crashed north of Sydney on Saturday night.
Police in the state of New South Wales (NSW) said that officers attempted to stop the vehicle traveling at high speed on a highway 190 km north of Sydney in the state's Hunter region around 11:55 p.m. on Saturday.
When the driver allegedly failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated and continued until the car crashed.
The 14-year-old male driver and 17-year-old male front passenger were subsequently trapped in the wreckage. Both were released and treated by ambulance paramedics, but the 17-year-old died at the scene.
