Kollam, July 25 -- As many as 1,385 people died by drowning in Kerala in 2024, compared to 1,344 in 2023, according to National Crime Records Bureau data, highlighting the need for increased vigilance and preventive measures to avoid such accidents, Kollam District Collector Annie Jul Thomas said in connection with International Drowning Prevention Day observed on July 25.
The Collector said drowning incidents account for a significant share of accidental deaths occurring during recreational trips and holiday celebrations. The Disaster Management Department is joining hands with the public to strengthen preventive measures under the message, "Together for Change".
