Lucknow, April 19 -- Samajwadi Party National President Akhilesh Yadav launched a scathing attack on the BJP over the Nari Shakti Vandan Act on Sunday, saying the saffron outfit was trying to make "nari" (women) a slogan.

"The BJP was trying to make nari (women) a slogan, but the opposition prevented them from achieving their goals. If the BJP can't conduct a census, how will they provide reservation for women?" he wondered.

Addressing a press conference here, Yadav said if the government conducts a census, the issue of caste census will arise. But this government doesn't want to give them their rights.

"We want to give rights to half the population, but who will decide which half of the population will it be?" he asked.
