Ranchi, Feb. 27 -- Panic gripped residents in a part of Jharkhand capital Ranchi on Friday morning after a wild elephant strayed from the forest into a residential locality. The elephant was seen roaming through lanes and bylanes, leaving local residents terrified. Authorities said the animal had wandered into the city from the forested Boriya Kala area around 7 am.

The elephant was spotted in the busy Hawa Nagar locality, prompting people to rush indoors while commuters fled the streets in fear. School-going children were also left frightened by the sudden sight of the giant animal.

According to eyewitnesses, the elephant damaged a few shops and pushed some vehicles along its path. However, no injuries to residents were reported.
