Shillong, Aug. 21 -- Former Meghalaya Chief Minister and Leader of the Opposition Dr. Mukul Sangma on Friday slammed the state government for the deteriorating law and order situation in Shillong, following the violent black-flag rally organised by the Khasi Students' union (KSU) on Wednesday.

"This is a complete failure of the government. If permission was issued for the rally, was it not necessary to issue a public advisory? The government has all the machinery to gather intelligence and put preventive measures in place," Sangma charged.

The former Chief Minister said that the government should have understood the magnitude of frustration and anger of the people.
